Türk Telekom Raises the Bar in Local R&D with Its National Technology Vision

Leading Türkiye’s digital transformation, Türk Telekom continues to advance its local R&D efforts in line with its vision of contributing to a “Türkiye that not only consumes technology, but also develops it.” One of the most tangible outcomes of these efforts is the success of Netsia BB Suite (Software-Enabled Broadband Access / SEBA), developed by Türk Telekom and its group company Argela, which has now surpassed 1.5 million homes passed. With its open-source, cloud-based and hardware-independent architecture, this national technology is helping shape the industry while demonstrating the contribution of Turkish engineers to global telecommunications standards. At Argela’s technology center in İzmir, a young and dynamic engineering team continues to work intensively on the development, system integration and validation of the solution, as well as on developing new technologies and preparing them for field deployment.

Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin said: “At Türk Telekom, in line with our vision of developing national technologies, we are working with determination to help transform our country into a technology hub that not only consumes technology, but also sets global standards, develops technologies and brings them to the world. The fact that our locally developed SEBA-based Netsia BB Suite solution has surpassed 1.5 million homes passed clearly demonstrates the advanced level Turkish engineering has reached within the global telecommunications ecosystem.

This achievement is one of the strongest examples of our consistent investment in Türkiye’s future and the strength of our national engineering capabilities. While we have maintained our leadership in national patent applications for the past two years, we have also demonstrated the strength of our local R&D capabilities on a global scale with more than 70 international patents in 5G and next-generation communication technologies. We will continue to play a pioneering role with our technological expertise and engineering capabilities as Türkiye advances toward becoming a country that develops and exports technology.”

With the vision of supporting Türkiye in becoming a technology-producing nation that exports high-value-added products, Türk Telekom continues its local R&D activities for the communication infrastructure of the future. Netsia BB Suite, the broadband access solution developed by Türk Telekom and its group company Argela, plays an important role in the transformation of next-generation fiber networks with its open-source, cloud-based architecture that eliminates hardware dependency.

Netsia BB Suite, which provides sustainability and significant cost advantages in fiber network transformation, has surpassed 1.5 million homes passed. By enabling faster deployment of new services, reducing technological dependency on foreign solutions and optimizing resource utilization, Netsia BB Suite is designed to enable more agile responses to future broadband requirements.

By overcoming hardware limitations and enabling vendor-independent operation, the platform is the world’s largest live SEBA deployment in its field, helping shape the future of the industry. Netsia BB Suite also received first place in the “Outstanding Multi-Gigabit Fibre Access Innovation” category at the Network X Awards 2025, one of the telecommunications industry’s most prestigious awards, further demonstrating its innovative leadership in the sector.

“We will continue to successfully represent our national technology initiative on the global stage”

During his visit to Argela’s technology center in İzmir, Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin said: “At Türk Telekom, in line with our vision of developing national technologies, we are working with determination to help transform our country into a technology hub that not only consumes technology, but also sets global standards, develops technologies and brings them to the world.

With our locally developed solutions such as SEBA-based Netsia BB Suite, RIC and satellite-independent 5G synchronization, we are reducing dependency on foreign technologies and proudly representing our national technology initiative in global markets, in line with our vision of a self-sufficient Türkiye.

We will continue to play a pioneering role with our technological expertise and engineering capabilities as our country advances on its journey toward becoming a technology-producing and technology-exporting global power.”

Addressing Tomorrow’s Needs Today

Operating on virtual servers through cloud computing technologies, Netsia BB Suite reduces hardware investment costs while enabling systems from different vendors to operate together on the same platform.

Through its disaggregated network approach, Netsia BB Suite provides operators with a future-ready foundation for transformation. In line with Türk Telekom’s 2030 targets, the solution plays a strategic role both in newly deployed fiber networks and in the modernization of existing infrastructure. Türk Telekom aims to further expand the footprint of Netsia BB Suite through strategic investments in the coming period.

The Engineering Power Behind the Success: A Young and Dynamic Team in İzmir

At Argela’s technology center in İzmir, a young and dynamic engineering team continues to work intensively on the development, system integration and validation of Netsia BB Suite, as well as on developing new technologies and preparing them for field deployment.
